The Fostering Registered Manager: A Toolkit For Survival

Our next 'The Fostering Registered Manager: A Toolkit For Survival' course will be held in Worcestershire from Monday 26 February to Wednesday 28 February 2018.

This three-day residential course has been designed to give new, aspiring or experienced Fostering Registered Managers a range of approaches and tips to fulfil this highly complex role.

The course covers Ofsted and National Minimum Standards, business administration, contracts, HR issues, and Leadership and Management.


After lengthy discussions about the difficulty in finding the right training for good potential and practising Registered Managers, the three Chief Executives of The Children’s Family Trust, The Foster Care Co-operative and Community Foster Care decided to design and deliver their own.

The driving focus was to ensure that the key elements of regulation, administration, contracting, leadership and HR were to be delivered within the context of fostering. Recognising the reality that time for Fostering Managers is very limited, it was agreed to provide an approach that delivered key priorities, aide memoires and signposted key resources, in order to deliver a Fostering Registered Manager’s Toolkit for future reference.

This approach, targeted for potential or newly appointed Registered Managers, shares and develops the experience of those in post, who have often had to “ find their way”, by providing a clear overview of the specific responsibilities, practical priorities and delivery methods of what can seem an overwhelming number of pressing priorities.

The entire course has been designed and will be delivered by experienced current Registered Managers and Fostering Chief Executives to meet the needs they know are required. Additionally the course provides senior business managers within an agency the opportunity to understand the structure and challenges that an RM faces.

Attendees leave having developed insights, strategies and a professional peer group within the course, with a clear framework of fostering managerial skills.

The CEOs also offer a confidential free six month mentorship to any participant who wishes to benefit from the opportunity. For further individual skills development, one day extension courses will be offered in the future that concentrate on single subject areas such as contract tendering, HR, business management, etc.

The course is residential over three days and costs £750 (Charities and Local Authority) and £900 (IFAs).

All delegates will need to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. However accommodation will be booked centrally by Skyrocket to achieve the best rate.
